Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic (310J Licensed required) to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for repairing and maintaining trailers, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.

Duties

Perform routine maintenance on trailers
Complete annual inspections as per the MTO DriveOn program requirements
Work with a fleet of over 120 trailers (van, walking floor, tipper, end dump).

Conduct routine maintenance, diagnostic and repair work on the following:

Electrical systems
Landing gear assemblies and trailer frames
Trailer bodywork and repair
Suspension
Coupling and hitching systems
Tires, hubs, wheels and axles
Air, brake, hydraulic, heating and refrigeration systems

Qualifications

Must have a valid 310J License
Prior experience in trailer maintenance
Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts and cranes
Proficiency in using hand tools to dig, assemble, and maintain trailers

Times have changed, dealerships can be monotonous whereas UPak has a wide range of equipment to learn on and make the days go by feeling like you have learned and accomplished something. We mostly run Freightliners and Mack’s along with various yellow iron including CAT 950m loaders, excavators, backhoes and multiple forklifts. We are constantly expanding our fleet within our forward thinking company. For candidates that show dedication and eagerness to learn, U-Pak will help them continue to obtain your certificate through schooling and sponsorship.

The Duties below include but are not limited to the following:

– Perform daily pre & post-trip inspections of assigned equipment. Document condition and submit the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)

– Responsible to prepare, load & transport large open-top waste and compactor containers to customer, disposal & transfer locations utilizing a company owned roll-off vehicle

– Safely operate vehicle in accordance with U-Pak rules, Ministry of Transportation requirements on commercial designated routes adhering to Occupational Health & Safety regulations and all local, provincial and federal laws at all times

– Clean-up loose trash off truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways

– Clear waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill or transfer station run to ensure safe & productive equipment operation

– Partner with Dispatch & Route Supervisor to improve efficiencies, provide excellent customer service, identify unsafe situations or improvement opportunities & follow best practices

– Participate in scheduled training, briefings and meetings required by U-Pak or supervisors

– Utilize on-board electronic ticket system (FleetMind) to follow workflow, record work completion and service interruptions such as breakdowns or blocked bins

– Notify Route Supervisor immediately of any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage

– Courteously interact with customers, co-workers and the public throughout the day

Safety

– Establishes and maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with U-Pak policies, procedures and Occupational Health and Safety standards.

– Ensures that drivers understand and completed testing and training required by policy, procedures, and regulations.
– Conduct ride-along observation evaluations with drivers providing coaching and feedback on safe working procedures and efficient processes.

Administrative

– Ensure training documentation is completed, reviewed, and filed in a timely consistent manner.
– Maintain detailed and accurate employee training notation/information.
– Review and audit documentation related to employees completion of training program.
– Assist with data collection and review to assess performance and training techniques.

Working Conditions

A Driver Trainer will participate in meaningful program development while promoting U-PAK training, safety culture and core values. A Driver Trainer will lead an inclusive learning environment encouraging communication and feedback to advance program curriculum.

Measurable goals and expectations will be reviewed every 30 days evaluating progress and concerns. Measurable goals and expectations will be assigned and assessed in 90-day segments. Duties/tasks subject to change suddenly and/or without advanced notice.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Driver – Front End (Full-time)

2 Shifts Available

– Schedule and Hours: Morning 5:00am to 5:00pm

– Salary Range: $31.50/hour

– Supplemental Pay: Overtime available. $1/hour safety driving bonus (after 3-month probation).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Duties below include but are not limited to the following:

– Perform daily pre & post-trip inspections of assigned equipment. Document condition and submit the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)

– Drives the front-end truck or rear-load truck along designated commercial routes to collect solid waste and transport to the landfill or transfer station for disposal.

– Open container enclosures or gates to access bins. When needed, roll 4 yard bins and/or 96 gallon totes into position for dumping

– Safely operate vehicle in accordance with U-Pak rules, Ministry of Transportation requirements on commercial designated routes adhering to Occupational Health & Safety regulations and all local, provincial and federal laws at all times

– Clean-up loose trash off truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways

– Clear waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill or transfer station run to ensure safe & productive equipment operation

– Partner and communicate with Dispatch & Route Supervisor to improve efficiencies, provide excellent customer service, identify unsafe situations or improvement opportunities

– Participate in scheduled training, briefings and meetings required by U-Pak or supervisors

– Utilize on-board electronic ticket system (FleetMind) to follow workflow, record work completion and service interruptions such as breakdowns or blocked bins

– Follow route assignments and ensuring route completion each day and complete all documentation at check out for end of route

– Notify Route Supervisor immediately of any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage

– Courteously interact with customers, co-workers and the public throughout the day

– Maintain and submit daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report (DVIR)

– Perform all duties as scheduled by the Route Supervisor or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer requirements

Working Conditions

– Driving a commercial truck through the yard and picking up vehicles from dealers

– Occasionally operate in tight environments with overhead hazards

– Outdoors environment facing all weather conditions

– Time sensitive pickup and deliveries

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

– Insurable to operate a commercial vehicle

– Class D Ontario license with Z airbrake endorsement (AZ and asset)

– Two years work experience operating a commercial vehicle

– Highly skilled maneuvering and backing required

– Clean DVOR driver abstract over past 24-month period

– Able to lift up to 60 lbs & work in outdoor inclement

– Strong work ethic with a passion to exceed customer expectations

Route Supervisor – Tractor Trailer

Duties and Responsibilities

A Route Supervisor with U-Pak is responsible for a wide variety of tasks. To perform this role successfully, you must be able to manage multiple duties within the following key areas. Other responsibilities may be assigned as required:

Employee Management

– Set and monitor productivity, service and safety targets for each route and driver

– Plan, distribute, monitor and follow-up daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced to company standards and agreements

– Morning roll-out of drivers ensuring pre-trips are conducted accurately and routing questions are addressed

– Conducts weekly safety meetings to address key safety items and recent incidents

– Manage end of day check in process, capturing and communicating key service, safety and equipment issues

– Monitor driver and labourer tire and attendance, minimizing overtime and ensuring drivers do not exceed limits established by regulatory agencies (e.g., 60-hour rule)

– Promotes a cooperative atmosphere. Resolves employee relations issues

– Organizes and schedules all necessary resources required to accomplish activities, coordinating daily operational needs with Maintenance team

Safety

– Establishes and maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with U-Pak policies and Occupational Safety and Health standards

– Conducts root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining

– Ensures that drivers comply with tests and training required by regulatory agencies

– Conduct monthly ride-along observation evaluations with drivers providing coaching and feedback on safe working procedures and efficient processes

Customer Service

– Ensure errors and missed pickups are reported and resolved

– Daily communication with dispatch regarding service issues/completion of services

– Visit customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety or service issues – seeking service alternatives where appropriate

– Document problem fixes and provide instructions to dispatch or maintenance

Administrative

– Review weekly demand/volume for routes – determine potential gains from re-routing and recommend re-routes to the dispatch team

– Conduct quarterly employee performance reviews, provides feedback, approves/schedules time off

– Review and audit documentation related to route operations on a daily basis (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets)

– Assist with data collection and reporting required for incentive pay programs

Recruitment

– Recruit, interview, and recommend new drivers for hire

– Retrain, coach, and develop existing drivers

Skills and Qualifications

Required: 2-5 years experience in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations

Skills

– Supervisory experience within a transportation or logistics environment

– Strong ability to manage employee relation issues, progressive discipline process
