Open Positions

Driver – Front End (Full-time)

2 Shifts Available

  • Schedule and Hours: Morning 5:00am to 5:00pm
  • Salary Range: $31.50/hour 
  • Supplemental Pay: Overtime available. $1/hour safety driving bonus (after 3-month probation).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Duties below include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform daily pre & post-trip inspections of assigned equipment. Document condition and submit the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)
  • Drives the front-end truck or rear-load truck along designated commercial routes to collect solid waste and transport to the landfill or transfer station for disposal.
  • Open container enclosures or gates to access bins.  When needed, roll 4 yard bins and/or 96 gallon totes into position for dumping
  • Safely operate vehicle in accordance with U-Pak rules, Ministry of Transportation requirements on commercial designated routes adhering to Occupational Health & Safety regulations and all local, provincial and federal laws at all times
  • Clean-up loose trash off truck and/or ground around truck and container that spills during dumping process to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways
  • Clear waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill or transfer station run to ensure safe & productive equipment operation
  • Partner and communicate with Dispatch & Route Supervisor to improve efficiencies, provide excellent customer service, identify unsafe situations or improvement opportunities
  • Participate in scheduled training, briefings and meetings required by U-Pak or supervisors
  • Utilize on-board electronic ticket system (FleetMind) to follow workflow, record work completion and service interruptions such as breakdowns or blocked bins
  • Follow route assignments and ensuring route completion each day and complete all documentation at check out for end of route
  • Notify Route Supervisor immediately of any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage
  • Courteously interact with customers, co-workers and the public throughout the day
  • Maintain and submit daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report (DVIR)
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by the Route Supervisor or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer requirements

Working Conditions:

Driver – Roll-Off (Full-time)

3 Shifts Available

Shift #1 – Afternoon shift – 1pm to 1am – Tuesday to Saturday

Shift #2 – Afternoon shift – 1pm to 1am – Sunday to Thursday

Shift #3 – Night shift – 5pm to 5am – Monday to Friday

  • Salary Range: Starts $30.50/hour
  • Supplemental Pay:  Overtime available. $1/hour safety driving bonus (after 3-month probation)

Duties and Responsibilities

The Duties below include but are not limited to the following:

Driver Trainer - Commercial

Purpose

U-Pak Disposals is seeking a Driver Trainer for our Etobicoke site at 15 Tidemore Avenue. This position is responsible for the day-to-day coaching and training of drivers, ensuring safe and timely collection for our customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

A Driver Trainer with U-Pak is responsible for a wide variety of tasks. To perform this role successfully, you must be able to manage multiple duties within the following key areas. Other responsibilities may be assigned as required.

 Training Management

  • Preparing and delivering instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
  • Promote an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Instruct and monitor employees in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of employees and communicate these to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
  • Assure that students meet all skill/course outcomes as represented in the training program guidelines.
  • Communicate productive, appropriate, and honest feedback to the employee.
  • Provide remediation coaching/training.
  • Inform Environmental Health and Safety Manager of employee issues such as: behavioral, academic, or personal.
  • Foster safety first behaviors, confidence, and culture.
  • Organize and prepare all necessary resources required to accomplish activities.

Safety

  • Establishes and maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with U-Pak policies, procedures and Occupational Health and Safety standards.

Working Conditions: 

A Driver Trainer will participate in meaningful program development while promoting U-PAK training, safety culture and core values. A Driver Trainer will lead an inclusive learning environment encouraging communication and feedback to advance program curriculum.

Measurables goals and expectations will be reviewed every 30 days evaluating progress and concerns. Measurable goals and expectations will be assigned and assessed in 90-day segments. Duties/tasks subject to change suddenly and/or without advanced notice.

    • Training of employees using the U-PAK Training Program package (new/current)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Mechanic role is what helps keep the mechanic shop running. When it comes to the Waste industry, THERE’S ALWAYS GARBAGE and there will always be work, hence we have the ability to offer overtime pay. Times have changed, dealerships can be monotonous whereas UPak has a wide range of equipment to learn on and make the days go by feeling like you have learned and accomplished something. We mostly run Freightliners and Mack’s along with various yellow iron including CAT 950m loaders, excavators, backhoes and multiple forklifts. We are constantly expanding our fleet expanding within our forward thinking company. This is a job for applicants who want to increase their work experience in the heavy equipment industry and pave their way to becoming a fully licensed mechanic.   • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity
  • Maintain current PM’s and schedule future maintenance sessions
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks)
  • Keep logs on work and issues using RTA and computer software
  • Maintain company owned equipment and keep tools in neat and proper condition
  • Assist in conducting pre and post vehicle inspections of equipment
  • Reporting any safety or repair issues to the shop supervisor
  • Follow and maintain all safety measures to according to U-Pak company policy and procedures
  • Courteous interaction with fellow employees and supervisors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Millwright - Emerald Energy from Waste Inc.

This position is at Emerald Energy From Waste Inc.

Emerald Energy From Waste Inc. recovers thermal energy from solid non-hazardous waste from municipal (MSW) and industrial, commercial and institutional (IC&I) sources. The recovered thermal energy is converted to electricity and steam for use in our community.

The facility has 5 gasification units, each having a processing capacity of approximately 100 tonnes per day for a total processing capacity of 500 tonnes per day. Our facility has been in continuous operation since 1992, processing over 2.5 million tonnes of waste to date.

The Emerald EFW facility is conveniently located at the intersection of Highway 407 and Bramalea Road in Brampton Ontario.

MUST HOLD A VALID CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFACATION AS A REDSEAL INDUSTRAIL MILLWRIGHT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR INTERVIEW

  • Hourly paid unionized position.
  • Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering the preventative and corrective maintenance program.
  • Working independently or with other maintenance employees to inspect, clean, repair and
  • Overhaul equipment such as feed hoppers and conveyors, thermal processing units, boilers, piping systems, valves pumps and controls for water, wastewater and steam as well as ducts, dampers and fans for air handling systems and pollution control equipment.
  • Complete maintenance assignments in accordance with OEM recommended practices and inhouse
  • Work order descriptions.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment failures.
  • Assist contracted maintenance services personnel as required.

  • The incumbent must hold an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certificate or equivalent and should

  • The incumbent should have several years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of rotating equipment, pressure vessels, furnace chambers, hydraulics, pneumatics, air handling and
  • conveyor systems.
  • Pipe fitting, welding, machining or rigging capabilities a major asset.
