In 1972, Tim and Margaret O’Connor founded U-Pak as a packing and moving company. Initially, they sent out containers to clients who needed help moving. Soon after, however, they realized that most customers used these containers as waste bins. Thus, they decided to pivot the business over to waste disposal and management.
In the following 50 years, U-Pak grew exponentially into a renowned and trusted waste management provider within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and nationwide.
Since our inception, we have remained a family-operated, Canadian-owned status. Being a Canadian family-owned business, we are proud of our heritage, which influences everything that we do. Our commitment to our core values drives our company forward:
- Innovate – We aspire to create solutions to make our businesses better.
- Respect – We are humble and respectful. We’re not perfect, but we grow together.
- Loyalty – We build mutually beneficial relationships based on trust, commitment, and investment in each other.
- Commitment – We follow through on our promises.
- Sustainability – We believe in a Zero Waste future, where all resources are reused.
Our Community Focus
Since the very beginning, we have believed in the importance of community. We support local businesses and foster strong relationships with our customers. As a Canadian waste management company, we understand the vitality of preserving our environment for future generations. We work diligently to assist our customers in finding sustainable waste management solutions that align with this vision.
U-Pak’s services are catered to the diverse needs of our clients. Whether it’s commercial waste removal, product destruction services, or food and organic recycling, we offer tailored solutions to handle all types of waste with care and responsibility. By focusing on sustainable waste disposal methods, U-Pak helps reduce the strain on local landfills and promotes the recycling of materials that would otherwise be discarded.
One example of our commitment to sustainability is our Emerald Energy from Waste (EfW) facility located in Brampton, Ontario. Emerald EfW recovers thermal energy from solid, non-hazardous waste from municipal and industrial, commercial and institutional sources. We use this thermal energy to generate electricity and steam, which powers the local community. Annually, Emerald EfW generates enough electricity to power 6,000 homes continuously.
Looking Ahead
In an industry that continues to evolve, U-Pak’s focus on sustainable waste management, combined with our deep Canadian roots, ensures that we remain a leader in waste disposal.
